Audio engineer

  • Instagram

Colombian audio/sound engineer with a rigorous approach on creating musical, audiovisual, and sound material within nowdays' professional music industry. My experience encompasses every stage of music production, from the very first creative process, through the pre-production, production and recording of musical pieces, to the final polish of the music material through technical mixing and/or modern mastering.

My current work brings together all my experience in music production and all my knowledge in sciences such as audio, acoustics, electronics, audiology, artistic design, among other branches in favor of the careful processing of musical pieces or sound material in the exercise of mixing and mastering.

At the same time, I conduct classes, provide advice, and mentorship in areas related to audio and music, always with a human, technical and excellence commitment mandatory for each of the intrinsic details of the world of music production, its technique and its art.

Let's work together !

Philosophy / Discography

My work arises from the psychoacoustic and technical need to pursue a sonic aesthetic for a song or a phonogram. The post-production processes and reproduction technology only have the purpose of contributing to this art in a constructive way. In my credits you will find tonal and textural variations, as my vision is focused on the art individuality of each one of the artists who entrust their creations to me.

You can listen to some of my discography on these playlists:

To achieve the goal we set with the artist, I built a workspace that has been designed with the sufficient engineering design to allow for proper critical listening of any type of sound material, and in this way, i could guide the sound towards the sound place desired by the artist and make it helpful for their musical work and their musical context.

In this place, in addition to the tools I built myself, such as the mastering console, the monitoring controller, the subwoofer, and the monophonic mixcube, I got some products from the following major brands to complement and perfect my work and, likewise, the results for my clients:

Alongside my sound engineering services, I am the director of the audio company "AUDIO SAPPHIRE ", manufacturer of analog audio processing equipment for recording studios and other applications.

In 2021, Audio Sapphire was born from the search for new tools in the analog domain, with an eye on the modern industry so that more engineers, musicians, and producers in the country have some kind of hybrid processing. The brand's units are entirely designed by me, with custom circuitry and a strong focus on national industry; their construction remains partially handcrafted, as they are assembled by me.

Today, Audio Sapphire has established itself as a company and brand trusted and appreciated by the Colombian music industry for its quality, versatility, and careful vision towards the productive industry and Colombian culture.

We love our country, our music.

Line level Amp

Client: Lukas Vera / Engineer of Jhonny Rivera.

Lukas contacted me to design a transparent and silent amplification unit, raising the level for his analog chain at Johnny's shows.

2 Channels with up to 32dB of pre-amplification / level indicators in dBu / polarity inverting switch and a split of 2 outputs per channel with independent controls of + - 6dB with output transformer, all controls are stepped and logo customized.

Talkback Cubes

Client: Charly Sarmiento.

Charly needed some talkback monitors for his live sound work, he wanted them to be portable but also it to have enough acoustic power for intercommunicability in a live sound environment.

After analyzing his needs, we built these 4-inch cubes, capable of delivering 98dB SPL @1m with less than 2% of harmonic distortion @1KHz.

Quad Preamp

Client: Charly Sarmiento.

Charly needed to amplify four low-sensitivity microphones with the ability to invert their polarity, but he also wanted some analog saturation. Based on this, we designed, in a single rack space:  Four preamps with fixed gain of 12dB and variable gain of 58dB, a polarity inverted switch, and transformer-based outputs to add some distortion and phase/frequency shift.

Monitoring controller

My own project.

Designed based on my workflow and the rigorous demand I place on my tools, it controls the routing of 2 balanced inputs and 2 balanced outputs, with 1dB steps of analog gain achieved using relays.

Its circuitry is as inert as possible, achieving a frequency response of 8Hz to 30kHz with an Fc of -0.5dB, harmonic distortion about less than 0.0026% @ 20Hz / 0.000035% @ 10kHz, a crosstalk of around -98dBA, an amplitude discrepancy between channels of ~0.09dB and an SNR of ~120dB.

Mastering Console

My own project.

Designed for my own hybrid mastering philosophy, it consists of a cascade of processes: 1. RMS Optical Compressor 2. Passive Mid/Side Equalization with real inductors 3. Parallel saturation stage with harmonic dominance control and, in turn, a soft clipping section.

And also, a general input level control and linear output control to be interpreted during printing.

Subwoofer

My own project.

Designed specifically for the dimensions of my control room and adjusted for the working conditions at the altitude of Bogotá, its enclosure is made of 2cm thick particleboard walls to reduce mechanical resonances. It features a squared bass reflex port focused on transient response, frequency response, and low group delay over SPL power.

I achieved a frequency response of 26Hz with excursion distortion of less than 0.7% at 31Hz.

Mixcube

My own project.

Designed to monitor the sound and behavior of small drivers, it consists of a high-precision active summing amplifier, a 60 Watt class D amplifier, and a full-range aluminum cone driver in a sealed enclosure, achieving a uniform response and distortion of less than 0.5% at 85dB SPL.

For those who want to know more about me, my story with music began in my childhood, where I learned the basic principles of the art of music by playing percussion instruments and actively listening to the music around me. At the same time, I developed artistic skills such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and theatrical gymnastics; these foundations shaped my sensitivity and creative and artistic side.

In my teen ages I had an encounter with the world of DJs / disc jockeys, during this period I gained an objective view of how an audience responds to certain sounds, this led me to delve into the world of music production, I learned about the creation of varied musical material, for a time I carried out several music production jobs in different musical genres such as Pop, Electronic, Urban, Afro, among others.

My time as a music producer led me to explore other sensibilities, such as timbre and the search for ways to communicate through sound, not only from a musical perspective but also from sound design and sound processing. That experience sparked my curiosity about post-production processes within music production, and that's how my journey into engineering began—a world where the art I loved so much merged with physics, another field of study that was both familiar and captivating to me.

Around 2019, in addition to what had been previously mentioned, I also had a moderately advanced level of knowledge in the areas of electronics and electricity. This is where the idea of creating my own inventions was born. Some projects were conceived from that year onwards, and in 2021 I completed the development of some of my own circuits and their industrial design so that I could use these inventions in my work as an audio engineer.

In 2021, AUDIO SAPPHIRE was born, my own brand where I wanted to share my creations with the country and where I found that I could provide my colleagues with some tools with a different and more modern vision than the one maintained in the analog audio processing industry.

Today I hope to be able to contribute all this experience to music, with a space for it, 2026.
